Page's like this remind me why this is one of my favorite chapters in the comic thus far. The writing's some of the best it's ever been and while there are points where the art doesn't quite measure up, here I think it came out really good. Mostly because of the framing.

Ivy's lying prone was something I was really unsure about and was worried might look stupid until I started drawing it. Martin explained it's mostly showboating (Ivy just seems to like just doing random poses), but since we get the close-up on the face as she's discussing Alex, I think she genuinely feels really sad he couldn't show up. Well, as himself, anyway. Reinforced by that fan in the Alex shirt. Who you'll notice was also that girl watching him beat Ivy for the first time back in the first page of this chapter.

But yeah, framing and use of the zoom-in on Ivy and Alex came out great. Liked doing the extras too, of course. ^^ Hell, even got to improvise those bits of dialog in the first and second panel myself. Martin just told me "Do whatever." So of course I swear up a bluestreak. I actually edited it down because some of it I felt was getting too out-there.

Yeah, I liked the lying on the floor visual a lot in my head, but not too surprised that without picturing it the way I was - which is more or less how it looks here, think Adam did some great work with that - that it could come off kind of awkward in theory. I imagine this day's probably a fairly complicated ritual for Ivy that she has mixed feelings on; I get the sense she probably typically has a lot of fun doing this and looks forward to fighting Alex, but she has other hang-ups about the day as well. Her choice of date for this is hardly a coincidence, after all.

Kind of a funny note on the first panel. Been basing the color schemes of the extras not quite off of what Adam's been basing the designs off of so as to be a bit more unique and fit more naturally. That one girl on the end was based on some cosplay Adam found of a steampunk Alex from A Clockwork Orange and in mixing that up, I kind of accidentally started drifting into Becky Lynch territory. Changing the colors a bit further helped with that, but you can still kind of see it I think.

Not sure what else I've got, pretty tired as mentioned and think Adam pretty well summed it up. Guess I could rant about how much that Nintendo Direct sucked but whatever, rather not go to bed on that. Hope everyone enjoys, and be sure to come back for Monday's page! It's... rather different for reasons we'll get into then.

Looks like Alex and Ivy really know each other well, looking forward to the next page.
