Gah, weekend at the Con and now pages are behind. Gotta draw my ass off this week.

But yeah, this is a great piece of writing from Martin. ^^ One part of Ivy we haven't gotten into is that she's a grizzled old professional in the Super-Hero business and has been doing it for longer than most people. Her opinion on everyone new seems to be "Fuck you until you're halfway decent." It was mentioned way back that Ivy actually likes to cull heroes to keep Atlanta from getting overcrowded, and hates heroes who she doesn't think are up to snuff. I don't even think it's for any "You're endangering people's lives by not giving it your best" reason, more just "You're embarrassing the rest of us."

Point is, Ivy's seen a LOT of burn-outs and flash-in-the-pans in this business and knows all too well the ups and downs in the Superhero lifestyle and how some people can be deeply hurt by it (something recently covered in Blues and will be explored much more deeply in the future of the comic). She knows that it's easy to go in with your eyes full of stars and get them beaten out of you, if not physically than mentally.

There's a comic called Irredeemable that opens with this, pointing out that super-heroes going nuts wouldn't logically happen from one incident that wrecks their world-view, but a line of small tragedies that add up and grow heavier. Ivy really encapsulates that way of thinking pretty directly.

For the record, I once asked Martin what Ivy might think of the Blues kids, and she'd probably hate them as much, if not more, than Marvelous Man. Funny to note. ^^

So, anyone have any guesses what exactly Alex has in mind to get the fight he's clamoring for so much? Clearly has something in mind to be as confident in all of this as he has been throughout.

But yeah, pretty much the end of Marvelous Man stuff here, though will still be showing up a time or two more. Has a few different reasons to be here, some of which play into Ivy's worldview, some of which kind of fit with Alex's (apparent) struggle to get Ivy to give him the time of day, and some of which will be explored more down the line in Blues, so will wait to really go into all of that, but his inclusion does have more of a purpose than just, "Wouldn't it be cool to have him cameo?" despite it being fairly brief.

Not quite diving right into the Starchild / Ivy fight with the next page, but we'll be getting there. It's starting soon, don't you worry.

Also, mentioned before but this is more or less the end of Hazel right now but he'll get some follow-up in the chapter's aftermath before the start of the next one. He is in one or two later pages within this chapter, but it's in a fairly minor capacity.

I have no idea what Alex has in mind but it should be interesting to see, and Ivy's temper is really coming close to boiling over.
