That's enough of Paxton, here's our third vignette! Which is a fair bit longer than the first two. You can probably gather it's because it's focused on two characters, not just one.

One aspect of the last chapter that had really, really been bugging me looking back was the lack of reaction to rain. Nobody hurried to get out of it, nobody had an umbrella, nobody seemed the least bit bothered at all. It was just a filter over the scene and seemed totally disconnected from what was going on. While yeah, it made logical sense for Alex to walk in the rain (his unofficial theme music is the song "When It Rains"), it felt weird everyone was doing it.

Trying to really take the time to remedy that for this chapter. Last vignette had Cassidy carrying an umbrella and wearing a coat, naturally trying to keep it up here. Erin and Eric both have hoodies, umbrellas, and Laura's got a rain-slicker. Also tried to give the page a feeling of trying to hurry and get the door unlocked so everyone can get out of the rain. Who doesn't love that feeling of coming out of a heavy storm into a dry, empty building? ^^

Putting a heavier emphasis on the rain adds to the depressing nature of the chapter, of course. Laura's obviously the most depressed person here, so did love that one shot of her standing in the rain while Eric and Erin are on their way inside.

Yeah, this particular story is a good bit longer than the other two so far. And also think it's the strongest of them to this point - hopefully readers will enjoy given that.

Does bare noting this is the first time in a good while we're seeing the Robinsons. Not by design - they were supposed to be in the crowd shot in the last chapter but wound up getting overlooked for it, so just assume they were offscreen there or something. Plus while we haven't seen him in awhile Eric did get dialogue a couple of chapters ago talking to Lillian on the phone, so there's that.

The two of them of course aren't the spotlight here, but they do at least get some presence and a little bit of fleshing out while doing this. Focus is more on Laura and Lillian though, moreso Laura initially. Be sure to swing by Monday for more on that front.

Also, one little touch I like a lot that Adam put in himself is Eric and Lillian sharing an umbrella. A cute little thing that plays up them being a couple a bit more.
