This was one of the more challenging pages to draw; the kind of raw emotion of someone just suddenly breaking down crying can look either really effective, or if you fuck it up will look really, REALLY stupid. When Martin complimented me on it I actually felt a lot of relief. Especially after I got it back in color. You'd be stunned how many things in the comics I'm clueless about until I get them back in color.

Dunno if it'd ruin the emotion too much to talk about the green thing. Laura bought that basketball and you can tell not from her line at the end of the last page, but by the fact that it's green. It's gotten to the point that whenever we write in Laura owning or interacting with an object, we're hesitant until we check and see if it comes in green. Martin wasn't sure if she should be the one to buy the ball until he found out they came in green. While debating if Laura should have an umbrella or a raincoat last chapter, I made sure the latter came in green.

I once wondered if we were taking it too far, but in the process of asking Martin I realized that I was wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans, drinking blue V8 juice, and had my blue car parked in the street, and was just about sit down to draw my comic which was based on my love of the color blue.

Holy fuck, does Eric have a great vertical jump! How is he not in the NBA?

And here we go in a direction with Laura's character that's been in mind for a long, long time. Granted, we have touched on it before, but this chapter's where we're first really exploring something with Ropun that's going to be a pretty major defining attribute of the character.

For now though, until we get into the specifics of that - though given we've at least touched on the issue before it probably isn't that hard to tell just what it is Laura's so broken up over - I'll focus on just the page itself. Do think this one works pretty well for having a pretty immediate punch, which hopefully readers will agree with.

Also, on the green basketball thing... It was less not being sure if they existed - knew for a fact they did, used to have a green and black one - and more wondering if that would be a distracting detail. Ultimately came down on the, "It couldn't hurt," side of the debate though.

Actually funny thing on the blue thing, Lillian is almost always wearing blue but doesn't catch nearly as much flack for it. Maybe because we've seen her wearing things other than blue before, just not often.
