Yeaaaah, weird new page. Kinda had no idea what I was doing for this one, randomly. The idea on Hazel's Mom's place is that it was a sort of run-down-place but not a shithole, and that's a weird line to walk.

We finally see Hazel with the new haircut. Weird thing is when doing this kinda-sorta final version I fully expected we'd do some back-and-forth after I sent Martin the lineart but guess he thought this was okay. Like, I was fully sending this with the idea the hair was draft-1. Then again, what I was going for on the hair is that it would have that thing going to wear it's weirdly still and well-behaved immediately after you first get it cut.

It was always the idea to have Hazel get rid of the patchy-grey look to his hair and just start straight dying it, but originally wasn't going to be until way later. Ask Martin on that one. ^^ I do like how he's got the sunglasses poking out of that pocket, kinda half-shelving the Heisenberg costume. That was in the script, so no credit to me.

Felt weird doing that one panel where you see his family for reasons I'm not sure I'm allowed to go into now. Like, I did a gag version of that page I'm not sure if it's okay to show off due to not being sure if ti's spoiler-y. I did ask Martin if kid Hazel would have grey hair and got the go-ahead to give him a streak just to help make sure it was clear which kid was him. Randomly his shirt is based off Monster Kid's line about striped shirts from Undertale.

Funny thing; totally not a sports guy, so I never know who's playing in the Superbowl. I Googled "Atlanta Sports Teams" when drawing Hazel's dad since I wanted to give him clothing along that line and didn't wanna just use the Braves again, and immediately got a bunch of Superbowl results. "Huh."

Usual PPV chime in because why not - PPV sucked, main event was really good, result sucked.

Anyway, this scene's fairly short, really just a couple pages, but do like how it came out. Think just this alone kind of gives us a bit more of a feel for Hazel and kind of some insight as to who he is exactly and what his goals are.

That shot of the family in particular I think kind of says a lot, particularly given if nothing else we already know his dad and one of his brothers are dead. Pretty melancholy shot given that I think, kind of a gut punch even just working on it when you kind of think about where the family went from that picture. We'll get a little bit more information about some of the other siblings in the next page.

Not intentional but kind of noticed in coloring this page that Hazel's dad vaguely looks like Xmarlek. Not too hugely and it's not at all on purpose but still, kind of wonder if that says anything about their relationship.

As for the hair... Yeah, it's always been the plan to eventually cut and dye Hazel's hair - honestly it was going to be cut outright short here but wasn't communicated right in the script, and rather than editing the page now figured could work it in later - but decided to move it up because... Hazel's hair before could be suuuuper time-consuming. Not too bad on its own, but it very quickly added up any time he'd be in multiple pages. That's not the only reason for the change, since as said it was always planned, but it is why it was slid up a bit.

Very interesting, wonder what's going to happen next.
