Really scatter-brained and Martin's at Wrestlemania tonight, so comments might be a bit wonky....

Main thought about this was me and Martin discussing the logistics of Hazel's and Mercy's rivalry, since a bit of discussion went into Mercy's reaction to this. The impression the two of us got was that while there might still be some professional rivalry on Hazel's part, it's mostly being driven by Mercy acting like a dick. It's like... Hazel obviously doesn't want Mercy around from day one, but he's probably willing to play ball and is more being put off by Mercy being a douche.

That said, I do really like Mercy's "Not just some selfless saint who happens to be in a street gang" line here. With how Hazel is a lot of the time, it's honestly kinda easy to forget he's a gangster. I mean, taking a bullet, helping out his Mom... even the stuff where you see him on the job he's mostly been a kiss-ass to Xmarlek and seems to regard his job as like a punch-clock gig that pays obscenely well. Even the parts where he's pissed off, like his fight with Ivy, mostly seem to stream from not wanting to be disrespected. And even then, the guy kinda DESERVES respect.

Yeah, I really wanted to have Mercy kind of call out Hazel on the difference in how he carries himself here. Most of this chapter Hazel's been courteous and helpful, but I didn't really want to look past the matter of, "Yeah, but this is the same guy who was crawling and jumping around all over the place screaming about how great he was fighting Ivy two chapters ago."

I do think Hazel's counterargument works fine though, that yeah, he has an ego, but that doesn't automatically make him a monster. Kind of a little too often that fiction equates one for the other but not always the case. Hell, even of our main characters Alex is pretty cocky a lot of the time and Sareena wants to be a legendary figure, neither's exactly humble.

And hey, we have a non-Lenore healer in the comics now! Feels weirdly overdue, that one.

More showing of crazy everyday ganglife, wonder what's going to happen next.
