Heheh.... Of COURSE there's two of them. ^^

In case you can't tell, this is Ella Constance, the twin sister of Emma Constance, head of C.A.N.D.L.E.'s Sapphire City branch. We kinda liked the idea of C.A.N.D.L.E. enough that we wanted to use it in both comics. And naturally for a pair of characters as goofy as them it makes sense to be extra silly and just have them be identical twins. ^^

There are differences of course, which we'll get to, but let's just say BOTH siblings are a lot of fun.

As Atlanta starts to get colder in the winter months, I had an excuse to tweak the designs for the Patriot Initiative, which I think in retrospect were starting to show their age. As the character design evolves, we gotta improve with it, and since most of their outfits would not have worked at ALL in a winter scene I just gave them a winter wardrobe.

In doing so I also made them look just a liiiittle bit more evil. Like, not by a crazy amount, since they're still actively selling themselves as a superhero team, but tried to give them a slightly more sinister feel. Most obvious is Cassidy, with his brown fur coat. It's very gestapo-ish.

Martin also asked that their corporate office contain some more signs that they were racist assholes, and so tried to work in a few touches. THose posters are meant to be very Dog-Whistle-y. God, I miss when I thought this idea of an openly-racist superhero team freely operating felt a little over the top....

Yeah, no harm in going ahead and coming out and saying now that this isn't Emma, since next page explains that anyway. Plus we previously showed off an earlier version of this particular design on the WaR side of things...

The next page will go into that, and also will explain who C.A.N.D.L.E. is so don't worry, you don't need to have read Blue Blood Heroes to figure out what their deal is. The overall idea is that the group has multiple branches and Ella leads one, Emma leads another. We're not entirely certain if there are more beyond that but it's something we've talked about and if nothing else there are definitely people higher up in the food chain within the group as a whole than they are. What separates Ella from Emma is probably already somewhat apparent but if not, next page should do a good job showing it off. It's not just a case where we have two of the character so we can use them in both comics, don't worry.

Honestly this chapter in general has a LOT of callbacks. We'll be getting some of that in the next page but also within this one you have Atlanta bringing up him and Sareena's fight, and there was Laura talking about having already told Lillian about her mom. Just the tip of the iceberg on that really, we'll be referencing some very early BP stuff before too long. Of course, this chapter isn't all dwelling on the past either, don't worry.

One thing I was trying to kind of convey here is Sareena sort of picking fights with the Patriot Initiative and still being on edge with them while Misty's a bit more directly authoritative and above arguing with them, instead trying to force the conversation on the rails. That'll be more clear going forward but kind of how I was trying to write their stuff together and think it plays out pretty well.

So WaR has an annoying gadfly of its own, so just because he was with her at the time, Paxton also got dragged into whatever Ana's way more demonic than she is younger cousins are doing.
