I'm a little mixed on the way the Adam Young and Eighth Sin backstory stuff figures into this chapter - in isolation I really like finally getting into some of this stuff, but on the other hand I will grant it's fairly out of place with the actual focus of the chapter, even if it does directly lead from a conversation about the Patriot Initiative. We're not really sinking all that much time into that specifically though, this page and the next are really it on that front before we get into the real meat of the chapter.

Something that was kind of an issue I was struggling with for a bit heading into this chapter was kind of realizing that I had a fairly underbaked idea of Young's personality; his role in the story's been plotted out for a looooong time but I was kind of missing that key motivation factor. Hitting on the idea of having him insatiably driven by curiosity did a lot to help focus the character and figure out how to tie him into things, plus to frame the divide between him and the person who wound up being appointed to lead Eighth Sin over him.

The hand we see in the third panel is a callback to Black Princess, but we also already have some basis for it in Wright as Rayne.

Probably already pretty clear but some firm establishment that those are referring to the same thing. Originally this page actually gave much more direct info about that, but I had to cut a lot of that stuff when I rewrote the page on realizing a fairly big plot hole in regards to the timeline as presented in that one. Was kind of too early to get into some of that information anyway.

At the moment 11 of the pages of this chapter have already been drawn, which is slightly less than half of them. I think this is almost certainly going to wind up being my favorite page in the entire chapter, even with half of them left to go. I had a lot of fun with this one and am really pleased with the result. ^^

Like Martin said, we've learned vrey little about Adam Young for all he's been mentioned, especially since he's been intended for a long time to be a major factor in the comic's endgame, so it was nice to finally see it brought out not only his backstory but a lot of his personality and his connection to the moon. His parter Garrett, the leader of Eighth Sin before Sarabeth, is also someone we've only vaguely heard about but never seen. Hell, I even really got into the origins of Eighth Sin finally being brought out to the forefront, as well as their status as a criminal organization and how that got started.

I was given a lot of leeway on this page and doing Young gave me inspiration to get creative with the visuals. Especially friggin' love the fourth panel, with him dressed like a diver, churning sea behind him, the moon bright and shimmering against the water... The skyline behind him in the window on the panel right next to him.... Just came out great.

At least some of my love for Young is narcisstic since he's named after me, so at least some of his design came from me. The ponytail and face in the second panel resemble my own, and instead of his scholarly beard he had in the present, in the final panel he has a proper goatee like the one I current have. That said, I've never been as big a fan of pink as he is, but I think it looks really great on him. ^^

Speaking of... The third panel is something else I loved getting a chance to draw. Martin linked to the last time we drew it and... Yeah, our skills have grown to the point where doing it was much easier and much more fun. ^^

Garrett and McBride's designs were also new, but really happy with the end result. I forget who the main inspiration was for McBride, but it was some very specific people. Hoenheim from FMA maybe? The script called for Garrett to look like a very clear "bad news" kind of guy and was told to put that over in the art. It's supposed to look like it's unambiguously for the best this guy's gone. Hope that comes out nicely. ^^
