Heheh... Yeah, look at THIS shit! WOO!

We mentioned in the last Blues update that we'd been trying a few step-ups in the art department, which at the time the only thing we were going forward was the black lineart being switched out for a very, very dark grey. But that was only part of the story.

We also wanted to work on thickening up the lineart and making the characters pop more. It got really addictive really quickly; in particular we noticed how much personality we could put into characters for how they look, and with details such as having extra thick outlines on their exteriors to keep them separate from the background. All of this is being shown off here from the first time and we're really happy with the result.

To show just how rapidly we've been evolving our style, this page had some major shifts done to the line-art as we were doing it. For starters, the background was TOO thin when we first did it, so Martin thickened it up. Then we were discussing fixing or improving how we did shading, hence THAT got re-done as well.

If you like this, check out Blues tomorrow. That has some GREAT new changes in how we do things that I'm dying to show off. ^^ ..... What's weird is that ALSO has a bunch of "Evolving as we draw it" thing, with it. Like, you can see it.

Martin went back into his write-up for all of Sareena's spells to do this script...

In particular I wanna highlight that in panel 5 she's busting out a spell to reduce gravity so she can leap at Atlanta. I friggin' LOVE the effect Martin went with to illustrate her nullifying gravity, with all of the little dirt particules floating up. That alone made me wanna do more with the set-up.

The last time we saw a Patriot Initiative rally, there was a girl in the crowd who was an expy of Ibuki from Danganronpa...

Ibuki is a really sweet character, and Martin pointed out how weird it was that she'd be on board with cheering for a bunch of racists dicks. So I brought her back for this page to show her starting to boo the group. I love how the crowd just all turned on the PI mid-fight. Really satisfying to read and draw. ^^

Yeah, lot of big art shakeups here, and we're actually going to be showing off something all the more drastic in tomorrow's Blue Blood Heroes page - we're very curious to see how all of that goes over, we've been very optimistic about the art as of late after a few days of trying out various things.

I actually struggled quite a bit with how to go about the floating effect, it'd been so long since we saw it. I eventually decided simple was better - kept trying to make it look more complex and shimmery and it just made it look like a cloud or something - and then the particles were a very last minute effect. Makes me want to try using this power more often.

This page was actually kind of a learning experience even as we were doing it - offhand DeGroot was done in the thick lines in the first panel and looked very out of place, like a cardboard cutout, so I thinned those out when shading it. Please bare with us if anything looks weird for awhile, we're still figuring out some big art shifts.
