And thus Sareena and Misty alone defeat the Patriot Initiative.

Yeah, this definitely wasn't the original plan, but it was the plan while writing a lot of the chapter and I do think it works for the better. The original plan for a loooong time was actually for Ana to be the one to beat Atlanta but I decided to change that for a few reasons.

1 - It's been Sareena's story. While Ana does make sense to have similar grievances given it's been mentioned a few times her family comes out of South America, she hasn't really been shown to have the same level of investment in all of this.

2 - For the purposes of winning on the PR front like they're really looking to do, Sareena overcoming the odds after being beaten down by Paxton and losing to Atlanta previously plays a lot better than Ana coming in and finishing Atlanta up after he's already fought Sareena, and it wouldn't have really done for him to just beat her instantly as a get around since she needed to get in some good hits on him.

3 - It helped with making the chapter quicker. I wanted to try to avoid having this one run too long, though it does run longer than the goal I was aiming for of 24 pages.

Callous being ultimately useless was the plan the whole time, though; there is follow through planned with that, plus it helped with getting out some crucial info earlier, but this is very much not his story so yeah, never really intended to give him any real spotlight during all of this, even in the face of having him present for it.

I actually spent a long time unsure how to format this fight. The gauntlet approach is what I eventually decided worked best for both feeling official and keeping the fight proceeding at a good speed, but for a long time it was going to be more of a free-for-all; really that just felt like it wouldn't really fit with the trappings of things, and it'd be hard to keep it from not just coming out to being Ana and Sareena going two-on-one with Atlanta, so that plan was shelved. There were also some other concerns with the formatting of things but the next page will be better for going into those.

There are three pages left in this chapter. The title of the next chapter feels like it'd be fairly spoilery to bring up until this one's over but I will say that for anyone wondering, it'll be entirely focused on Alex, to the point he's in every page of it; think the only time that's happened previously for him was in Like the Rain, They Fall where a few of them he's just standing around in the background in a few pages so this is kind of the first real time it's happened, though Sareena is in every scene of this one, even if not actually appearing in every page directly.

I feel like I should mention that the Patriot Initiative will definitely appear again in the future, but I'm not sure to what extent - this is the end of this storyline, besides some loose ends left to cover in the next few pages and a bit at the start of the next chapter, but there are other plans in place for some of them eventually going forward. Probably be a bit before the group has any notable presence though and as is, yeah, this conflict is (finally) done with. Kind of learned some things about trying to juggle multiple major storylines at once from this whole thing so probably going to see the Black Court comparatively on the backburner for awhile while we build up what Alex is doing next, but going to try to accelerate the pace of the big storylines going forward on the whole.

Yeah, very nice, yeah? The group might turn up again, but for the most part the Patriot Initiative arc is over.... Like Martin said, they're probably going to pop up again, but they're almost certainly not going to be given the same degree of multi-chapter spotlight that they did before.

I've kinda gotten really attached to the idea of Arc Villains since doing Marvelous Man myself; they're just sort of fun to do in this format. Granted, the problem in that guy's case is that his arc over in Blues went on WAY too long and the guy soaked up entirely too much screen time, but eh. It was fun to work with.

But yeah, this page was pretty fun to write, especially Ana. Was just great drawing her looking cute with the mic, and the entirely-unscripted surprise piggyback ride she got from Daryl. In general the last panel was where I started drawing and is clearly the one that got the most love. Me and Martin did joke that the big group hug felt more like a Blues page than a WaR page, but I mean, they're in a stadium full of people after winning a major game. A group hug and/or pouring Gatorade is pretty much required. ^^

Gah, I have something else I wanna say about this page and how it relates to Sareena, but it gets spoilery for the next chapter... Suffice to say, I'm REALLY looking forward to that chapter. Like, a LOT.
