Heh, yeah, Paxton intentionally being an asshole to turn the crowd was probably pretty obvious, but Misty being responsible for it might not've been. There was some earlier hinting about that, in that Misty mentioned having talked to him and said to go in expecting to fight, plus she looked evasive about the idea of getting good PR from it.

Another tipoff here is if you look closely when Paxton's eliminated, he's smiling.

I struggled for a good while with figuring out how exactly to fit Paxton into this whole blowoff; a big part of the problem with doing a free-for-all would've been him essentially making Sareena's crew look like they stole a member from the team if he attacked them during it, ditto for if he just backed down immediately in the gauntlet. As such I decided this way worked the best for the purposes of giving them a PR win while still having him undermine the Patriot Initiative - intentionally riling people up and turning the crowd against them.

Funny thing, the plan's for Paxton to be regularly recurring from this point on now that he's effectively part of Sareena's inner circle without the Patriot Initiative baggage, but he isn't in the next chapter... though being fair Sareena is the only character in this page who is. Two more pages to go on this one and really hoping everyone's going to enjoy what's coming.

Heheh... Yeah, this was kinda clear, I guess, because at least one person pointed it out in the comments. Good to know I'm not the only one who really likes Paxton and wanted him to not be a racist shitbag.

We've been making a lot of improvements on the art in a really short period of time, and I'm really stunned looking at a lot of them on this page. In particular the expressions feel so much more smooth and natural. The second and sixth panels are my favorites for that. The former was written in the script to carry a sort of "Just best friends chilling" kind of vibe and to just quietly show the friendship between Sareena and Misty. The sixth I just loved because it WASN'T scripted for Paxton to be so openly happy and giddy to see his former boss. The finger-gunning into a clock to the jaw was just fun to do.

I also love that Paxton never put a shirt back on. Just why bother. It's been mentioned that Paxton used to have trouble just functioning in society and I'm starting to wonder if helping him get over that hump is why he joined the Patriot Initiative. Maybe now that he's splintering from them he'll get freaked again.

I also like that despite having that "best friends" moment Sareena is still sort of taken aback by finding out Misty set up Paxton to go so brutal in their fight. Even if Paxton actually smacking the shit out of her wasn't planned.... I guess Misty just wanted Paxton to say a lot of racist shit and then start jobbing, but Paxton figured beating a woman savagely would be a better sell of being an asshole.
