Yeah, kind of a lot to discuss in this page.... Offhand, something being highlighted here is that Catherine is pretty close to being an absentee parent. .... Okay, saying it like that is a bit harsh, given Dorothy is a teenager, but it's stunning how little involvement Cathy has in her life, and hasn't noticed at all that Alex is in her body, let alone that he's being a super-hero. This has been sort of present through the story, but I think this is the most direct people have come to discussing it.

Though... Funnily enough, Alex did mention it, while also playing it off, the first time he met Grant.

But I do like the idea that this super-awesome family is probably a better environment for Dorothy, but Alex knows that, but he can't take advantage of it because he's roped up in Sarabeth's bullshit power play. Hell, given Alex's poor relationship with his own parents, this actually probably hits close to home.

Hm. Come to think of it, I think the stuff with Alex's parents was ALSO most directly referenced in Blues...

Weird. Either way, cute and breezy page.

It felt odd seeing Dorothy's living room again. At the time we started up the comic I was living in North Carolina and the living room is based off the apartment I had there. I don't have a lot of fond memories of that place, so I felt really strange re-visiting it.

Yeah, admittedly it can be a bit much just how absent Cathy generally is from the events of things; she's certainly popped up here and there but by and large Alex tends to basically live as though she isn't around because in large part she isn't. A little overly convenient from a writing perspective immediately, though it is a pretty helpful part of explaining why Dorothy was an ideal choice for what Sarabeth is doing.

It was pretty important to me in doing this to sort of put things into perspective and show the divide between what life with each of Dorothy's parents is like and how her dad's place is definitely the healthier household. I also linked to it on the last one but this is still a pretty pertinent page to call back to here -

In general I'm liking using this chapter to kind of get a bit more of an idea of what Dorothy herself is like, if only indirectly, and kind of playing it against the current separation Alex has from his own family and life. Really hoping everyone enjoys this one.
