First off I should probably note that Adam's presently relocating to a different hotel closer to home, and we're not sure how it'll impact things. The next page in this sequence might end up stripped down a little or something depending on how things shake out, though we're doing what we can to stay on top of it. The cover and first page for the next chapter are already done, as is most of the second, so those shouldn't be a problem but this whole hurricane thing's kind of thrown the whole schedule into turmoil presently. Hell, the second and third pages of the chapter are actually relatively light, stripped down ones that weren't initially planned in large part to make it easier to build up a backlog before getting into something heavier.

In either case, yeah, this is the second half of this round of filler - looking a little more in-depth at the gender issues Alex was grappling with in the previous chapter. It's sort of been a complicated process figuring out how to approach that; originally it was going to be more simply nudged at without Alex really identifying the exact issue right away and the conversation with Daryl was going to come within the main comic in some future chapter, but I eventually decided it felt more organic to go ahead and go into the whole matter sooner rather than later and for Alex to be more perceptive of these feelings.

It helps that the groundwork was already laid for this conversation as it is -

So yeah, in all ways better off just going ahead and going into it. Main reason it's happening in filler is because there isn't really a convenient place in any of the next few chapters to fit it in; the next one is going to have too much going on for it to really organically fit and without giving much away, the one after is going to be major, and thus here we are.

Yeah, in a different hotel now, can't quite sleep....

But yeah.... very neat and interesting moment to check in on this subject and get some thoughts on Alex's self-identity. Interesting bit to talk about and look at.

This does feel like a good moment to go into it, after his disgust at reflexive disgust at feeling comfortable at being Dorothy in the last chapter. He understands that there's good parts of being Dorothy that he wants to keep when he goes back to his own life, but isn't sure just how to go about it.

Originally the plan was to have Alex more baffled and confused by his gender dysphoria pulling him in both directions, but I think that got walked back just because one of our readers on Discord (Ghost I think?) pointed out it'd make sense for him to be familiar with the concept. I think this feels more natural, since even if you're familiar with the concept it's easy to see it being confusing for how it applies to you.
