Heheh.... Yeah, very emotional page here. Hard to really comment on directly, but definitely a satisfying and different one to get out. ^^ The image of squeezing the hand as a sign of life was so powerful that I kept it going by making it the focal point of the first two panels. Zooming in and out of an image to convey the feeling isn't something we do often but we should try. It can have a surprisingly big impact. Always makes me think of one of the more ominous moments in Identity Crisis. Should re-read that since I started to think more and more about the framing of shots; the book's very sloppily written but the art and how it's put together is just stunning.

It's a common habit that when drawing expressions artists will subconsciously mimic the face they're drawing to convey on the page. I'm no exception, and as a result, I found myself really enjoying Hearst in panel 4.

Yeah, this is another really odd page for us, but one I'm quite happy with; felt appropriate to give Cynthia this big emotional moment after how she's previously only really been seen distant, miserable, or at most kind of coy - felt appropriate to have her dignity drop and just show her being human here since this is undoubtedly the happiest she's ever been.

This is the end of this leg of the plot, but we will be revisiting the Black Court later in the chapter; for now though we'll be turning the focus over to someone else in the next page for a shorter subplot. I actually pretty strongly considered ending the chapter on this rather than positioning it toward the start, but decided it worked better being positioned here, and that wound up feeding into some later story decisions that we'll get to.
