As implied in the cover, we get back to Hazel here. Absolutely one of my favorite villains in the comics just because I love the whole "Cunning underdog raises to nightmare status" thing. Here we see him drinking in the wine of his success. Having a villain make it big and literally look down on the city like this is just classic "Now I'm going to rain down terror" imagery, so just cool to see it. Wonderful opening to a chapter. ^^
Naturally, Hazel is still dating Luciana but as he pointed out before, her being so willing to stab Mercy in the back, means he's keeping his eye on her. Since Hazel got as far as he did by playing the long game, waiting for the right time to strike, and being cunning, it's great to see that he's not going to let his guard down so the same thing could potentially happen to him.
The rest of his crew are with him of course, most notably Verbren as he's the guy's personal Dragon. I do love that Hazel still promoted Todd, the kid he kept around purely to toture. Is one of the more twisted things Hazel's done. .... Yes, worse than beating a man to death with a tire iron. Fuck that guy.
Yeah, this is very much a Hazel spotlight chapter, though we'll still be seeing our heroes throughout. Next few pages at least are going to be firmly on Hazel with Alex very much taking the B plot this time around.
Either way, am pretty happy with how this one turned out. Been awhile since we've seen most of this crew - none of them were in the previous chapter and only Hazel and Maggi were in the one before that - so felt good to see them again with how much the artwork's improved of late.
Do like kind of right away reestablishing things with Hazel like this. He's on his way up in the world, he's got his crew surrounding him, all is going well right now even while he looks to be picking fights with Alex and the Light That Remembers. Looking forward to what all's still to come in this plot.
