This was one of those scripts that took me by surprise and really was a kick to see (rimshot). Again, Xmarlek was taken out so suddenly that we needed a quick, ominous show to really sink in just how dangerous he is. Kicking the shit out of Hazel for a good solid page was a great way to emphasize the fact that he's a threat that won't go down easy. Especially knowing he could've kept going and even potentially killed him if he wanted to. With the same thing he used to kill Mercy no less...
Speaking of, I kinda love how Xmarlek doesn't even pretend he gives a shit that Mercy's dead. If he ever cared even slightly he's already written it off and is only keeping the tire iron to fuck with Hazel. It's a good reminder that Hazel had every reason to rebel, since Xmarlek would care just as little if Hazel had died while loyal.
So yeah.... War between these two... Everybody excited? ^^
Yeah, this one is a page that while it doesn't have a lot going on it I think is definitely important - it really goes to show just how casually dangerous and vindictive Xmarlek is, and while he's not killing Hazel for the moment he's definitely leaving him with the knowledge that he very easily could have.
In general find it kind of a weird one to comment on given how basic it is, but hopefully it's impactful. This one was kind of drawn in a weird order; Adam did the heads first, then I cleaned up and colored it along with doing the backgrounds, then he did the faces, then I added the assorted effects putting it over. Kind of just a consequence of wonky scheduling I suppose.
