This page and the last one were kind of interesting in that both of them required us to fairly last minute stop and figure out how exactly to design the characters we had in mind for them; both were characters I kind of had the idea of in place for awhile but the specifics of their actual appearances needed to be ironed out and both wound up pretty last minute. The last one kind of got more love on it than this one; for this one Adam and I basically just kicked around ideas for awhile and I ultimately told him I trusted his judgment, then when he sent me an in-progression version I sent some ideas for tweaks but largely kept with what.
Either way, yeah, these are certainly some interesting new faces. And it's definitely clear they want to talk about something...
Sort of a funny note on the initial line from his new face here. I wrote a lot of the latter end of this chapter in one go and though I had a whole spiel with that planned from the word go on this scene, but then in writing it it turns out I'd never actually come back around to it. If you know the context you can likely figure out roundabout what the intention is of it here, and some of the later dialogue does tie back to the broader theme, but I wound up after seeing the drawn page but before coloring it editing a later script after the fact to more directly call back to it as originally planned.

We get a better look at the powers of that fellow with the mask... He can walk in/out of space through shadows. In the penultimate panel we see him entering through the shadow being cast by his buddy on the wall thanks to Alex's flashflight. That shadow-walker power is just a ton of fun, loved it ever since I draw Ninja Scroll as a kid. Really happy Martin put that in the comic. ^^
