As long as we're taking a break between chapters we're gonna be universe-building. This is an in-universe show that one of the characters is a fan of.

Martin came up with the premise- essentially a high-school girl has the power to switch back and forth from her normal world and to a sort of fantasy-world where everything is in the "Aw, Shucks" idealized version of the 1950s, leading to a lot of lazy, painful jokes. Which character is a fan of it? Well... we'll have to see. ^^

This was simultaneously really fun to work on and really, really painful. When Martin tossed me the synopsis I woke up the next day saying, "I know exactly how the filler showing it off will look like." I did that exact idea with a lot of the specifics including how the best friend would look, the expression on the boyfriend, the expression on our main star and... I swear to God I'm not kidding, every single time I finished drawing a character I groaned. If this show was real I couldn't watch it for more than thirty seconds without committing harakiri.

Mostly looked up different elements of various tweenage shows for reference. In particular the main girl is mostly Hannah Montana. The boyfriend is a low-rent James-Dean putz in the fifties and Flash Sentry in the modern day.... I was gonna make the mentor-teacher into Mr. Feeny but then halfway through went "Fuckit, that show wasn't perfect but Feeny's way too good for THIS." So re-worked him into whoever that guy is.

Going to be weird the next few weeks of commenting on two things back-to-back twice a week. At least with BP it's something I probably won't have much to say on, I guess.

Yeah, this is a little weird. It'll be coming up a little bit pretty early into the next chapter, though it does bare noting now this isn't going to be a Stargirl kind of thing where facets of the show are plot-relevant or anything; someone likes it and it's an aspect of their character but it's not really something you're going to need to know that much.

So yeah, this one's strange. Think Adam pretty well covered the specifics of how this came to be, so won't really say much about that. We'll have more posters of this sort for other things in this universe over the next weeks, then we'll get the book three cover before starting up the first merged chapter Shopping Star, Burning Bright.

Talk about a wacky TV show, be interesting to learn which character is a fan of it.
