Funny I'm needing to set this one up since this one's much more Adam's brainchild - I don't really know a gigantic amount about either movie. Still fun seeing Cowgirl!Xandy and Samurai!Lenore though.

We actually batted around a few other designs for this one - was one we were kind of leaning toward but not sure how many people would actually catch the reference there. Either way, couple more fillers to go and then we're off and running on chapter 23.

Heheh... Yeah, this is naturally a joke on the Seven Samurai and the Magnificent Seven. If you're not familiar with the films, Seven Samurai is a classic and beautiful bit of cinema about a group of poor farmers threatened by bandits, who wind up hiring the titular seven samurai to save their village. The Magnificent Seven was a remake that did the same thing but in the old west, replacing the samurai with cowboys. Xandy's lines are a nod to the fact that MGM did not ask permission for the rights to remake the film, and were immediately sued by the studio that made Seven Samurai because duh, why wouldn't they be?

I've never actually seen Magnificent Seven, either the original or the new one that came out a few years ago, but I've seen Seven Samurai a few times and absolutely love it. I was really disappointed when the re-make of Maginificent Seven came out; the rumor for a while before its release was that instead of being cowboys, they were going to change up the genre and setting a third time, and instead set it in the 1930s. So it'd be a bunch of dust-bowl-era farmers needing to hire seven two-fisted private detectives to protect them from a buncha tommy-gun-weilding gangsters. I was hyped for that concept but nope, cowboys again.

My favorite little bit with this filler is Martin putting Lenore in black and white. Great touch. ^^
