This is a day early since I figured we might as well run it as a standard update but...

Yeah, 10 years. I'm only 29, though turning 30 in a couple of months, so I've spent over a third of my life working on this comic. That's just crazy to think about.

If I'm being honest I find myself a little split; I'm very proud of a lot of the work we've done over the years and of the scripts and plans that are yet to come as we go forward, but at the same time, there are definitely parts of me that have doubts and parts of me that does wish I was reaching a broader audience. It can be a little bit of a rollercoaster sinking so much time into these comics, though I really wouldn't know what on earth to do with myself without them at this point, even if there are days I could use a break or find myself pretty exhausted or depressed with the whole thing.

It's really just kind of a sobering experience I guess, despite not really being any more significant than the 9th anniversary last year when you really break it down. We're going to keep right on working though and hopefully there are many more anniversaries to come and all the readers we have keep at it with us with plenty of new ones joining in. It really does mean so much having people read, even if it's the many of you who don't really leave comments or anything, and if ever there's a time you want to say something or ask questions now would definitely be a time I would especially love to see it, though we eagerly look forward to every new comment we get as it is.

So, we have ourselves a triple feature here, let's go over those, shall we?

First off, we have the preview of year 11! We've previously shown off Masina Malulu a couple of times, but the plans to bring her in when she was going to turn up fell through due to not really sliding comfortably into the story arcs that were going on at the time; she will be actually showing up in this next year worth of comics, have no doubts about that. While we're talking about the preview, the puppet motif here was a very deliberately chosen one, though it also works as a callback to the cover of the first chapter. To an extent the taglines hyping up mysterious things to come is also pretty similar to the covers used in The Black Princess for another callback, though that was kind of a realized coincidence rather than the actual idea behind doing it.

Then we have that series of quick pictures. We threw around ideas for a few more, but we didn't have a huge amount of free time to spare for them unfortunately; one idea that was tossed around was having Ropun in the style of Wilma from Blue Blood Heroes as a callback to when she dressed up as OZ, an alternate idea was Sareena and Misty as Supergirl and Batgirl, there was an Alex and Grant idea... It was kind of just supposed to be a little bonus thing so I'm not terribly concerned about not having more but it is a little disappointing, though I'm quite happy with the ones we went with.

Thirdly, Militant Gold! This one was less something prepared for the purposes of this and more just a convenient extra thing to make up for not having more of the sketches. We'd already redesigned the other four a few months back but Reality kind of fell through the cracks, then we came back around to finishing him up so that we could include them within this set. I want to finally get Militant Gold up and running sooner or later, though it might be a bit difficult to find an artist for it; if nothing else though we have designs and we have scripts so I at least have stuff to shop around in looking for one. I'm really hoping everyone is going to enjoy that whenever I get the chance to get it off the ground, the plan is for it to be very different from both Wright as Rayne and Blue Blood Heroes and I can't wait to show off some of the villains I have planned for it in particular.

Thank you once again for reading over the years and please keep reading when the story continues on Monday!

Yeah, ten years. Just.... Wow. It really is a lot to think about..... When you hear it like that....

The first ten pages were drawn over the course of a few months when I was living in an apartment in North Carolina, where I was cold and lonely. I'm currently waiting for a hurricane to hit my hometown (again), and praying that once it happens I won't lose power. It's... Weirdly symmetrical, isn't it?

It's kinda hard to not feel pessimistic right now. The last ten years have, as decades tend to do, had a lot of ups and downs and the past several months seem to have been nothing but the latter. This is reflected in the comic itself, which has given us plenty of exhaustion, burn-out, worry, and anxiety, and that we've sunk a lot of time into. Like Martin said... It would be nice if we had a larger audience and I really regret my artwork being such utter garbage at the beginning of the comic. Being chained to such bad art is such a burden that a better artist would'nt've left the comic with.

But at the same time, I'd say yes to this comic again in a heartbeat. I honestly say my life's richer for having drawn it than otherwise, and Alex's struggles, adventures, and all the tiny moments he's had to experience over the last ten years just ring out to me now. The current uncertainty of my situation is bringing a lot of my feelings to the surface and I have really loved all the time I've spent refining the techniques that've gone into making this. It's just made me happy to work on this labor of love with my best friend. It's been neat to know that throughout all the good times and bad times, Alex has still been fighting the good tight, and when shit gets serious in our lives, it always feels good to sit down and think of what the next step in the comic is going to wind up being.

I want to thank all the readers who've been tuning in for years; the support really, really does meant a lot to us. That said though, Please comment more. We know there's a massive number of readers who read the comic but don't comment and... it would mean a lot to us if you chimed in every once in a while. That sort of thing keeps us going.

Fuckit, Discord plug.

Erm... Eheh... With all that said, ont sure how to respond to everything that went into the actual art....

The anniversary pictures are always hard to talk about since it's really, REALLY hard to come up with ideas for how we can put pictures in these things that hype up what's about to happen without just giving them away. That blurb about the "rise of a king?" Yeah, we kept trying to come up with a visual indicator for it but couldn't think of one that didn't make what was happening incredibly obvious. As-is, I do like the image. I think my favorite little touch is the stage lighting at the very top of it.

Heh... The other bits I don't wanna say too much on, but the doodling was a lot of fun. I'm kinda stunned at just how much Alex pulls off the Starchild outfit. Militant Gold is something I've been eager to see for a while but hard to comment on... I tried my best to make the designs look better than usual; I really want them to look awesome so they can be shopped around for another artist. ^^

All I got, I think. Just... Just thanks to everyone for the last ten years. Please comment more, and please keep clicking back over. Good night~

I first started reading a few years ago..first on an infrequent basis, then more and more I read it more regularly. It was a welcome break from my troubles with the mainline comic book medium then, and it remains a fine example of where to take things now.

Congratulations on keeping with your dream, and finding the time to continue, it's never easy, but the magic is in making it look just that.
